Well, here we are on Wednesday – no 6:30 am call. The 9:00 call came in and still not flying, with winds up to 40 knots.
The rest of the climbers are off the mountain in good shape and are at Mt. Vinson base camp awaiting weather to fly to Patriot Hills.
We are getting another call at 12:00. In the meantime we have no hotel today — team spirits remain very good. Dave’s and Barry’s stories, and Barry´s jokes especially, have kept the team loose.
We had drinks last night in Shackleton´s bar, of Endurance fame — one of the best adventure stories of all time. As expected, high ceilings, wainscotting, an old fashioned kind of place!

From one Rock (Newfoundland) to another (Vinson Massif)
Ian – We heard you on CBC As It Happens and Jan and I were compelled to follow the adventure (from inside!). Glad to know you have a tenacious Newfoundlander with your team. I understand she has a flag to raise on the summit. Is it the Newfoundland republic flag or the provincial one? Knowing you, you might have brought a tennis ball to throw off the peak. I wondered if your training included how to deal with hurry up and wait times. Get away soon and all the best to the team. John and Jan O’Dea
Re: From one Rock (Newfoundland) to another (Vinson Massif)
I saw your message on the website and thought to drop you a note. Patricia is my sister and I am waiting anxiously along with the rest of our family. I saw that you wondered about the flag and thought to drop you a line. My husband wondered the same in which flag it would bei.e. replublic flag http://www.gov.nl.ca/brand/. I am leaving a link that decribes the flag…our new brand. Certainly the description is well suited for their climb. All the best to everyone.
Waiting with sleep depreviation.

watching and waiting…..
Keeping track of your postings. Good to hear you are all in good spirits. Given the weather in PH and Mt Vinson, you are all better off in PA frequenting the local bar. I’m having a drink back home and toasting to your patience! HR.. relatively speaking….after this, Kili will be like the Four Seasons! Be safe. Stay sane. edl.
small world
Hey there,
I’m Dale’s sister in law whether he likes it or not!! Apparently there’s another crew with you, is there not? Is it the crew from Smooth Rock Falls? If so say hi from Louise Gauthier – a colleague of Bourke’s (husband) who is a friend of one of the trekkers from that part of the world. He’s going to wonder how in the world she got a message to him through you guys. Or not – just thought it was a neat example of six degrees of seperation. Just to make you feel better – we’re snowed in here too in Mt. Tremblant. Best of luck and take care of that Dale for me would you – I haven’t finished teasing him yet.
All the best,
Jane
Heather,
Just heard today that you had left on your adventure from our friend Ruthie. Your crew has given many people on a transplant list much needed encouragement and hope. Keep up the good work and have a safe climb. God Bless.
