Outdoor Survival Canada Supports South Pole 2013

Dr. Heather Ross, Dr. Diego Delgado and the Test Your Limits (TYL) team are grateful to Outdoor Survival Canada (OSC) for their incredible generosity and support for the South Pole expedition.  OSC has created a new and customized expedition parka for the TYL team.  Not only is the design and construction of the coat second to none, Johnny Yiu – Owner and Designer – invited Dr. Ross and Dr. Delgado to be involved in the creation of the coat by providing input into the accessories and details on the coat

“Based on my expedition experience in dsome of the most extreme conditions, this coat is created not only to withstand the intensity of the South Pole but it has all of the little details and features that make the biggest difference when you are exposed to the elements,” says Dr. Heather Ross. “The opportunity for Dr. Diego Delgado and me to be involved in the customization of this coat with Outdoor Survival Canada surpassed my expectations and I am grateful to have them as a part of our ‘Test Your Limits’ team.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Outdoor Survival Canada outfits Toronto doctors for landmark South Pole Expedition – June 22, 2012

Toronto, ON – In January 2013, a team of cardiologists and a heart transplant recipient will be touching down in the South Pole to raise awareness for heart health and the Heart Failure program at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, University Health Network. On the upcoming Test Your Limits trek, the entire team will be outfitted in the ‘MISSION’ coat, the latest Expedition downwear from Outdoor Survival Canada. A brand that is already well known throughout Europe and Canada for its functionality and Canadian-made focus, Outdoor Survival Canada brings experience and collaboration into developing the ‘MISSION’ for this South Pole expedition.

Outdoor Survival Canada has named this expedition coat ‘MISSION’ to capture the spirit of the South Pole journey and the inspirational message behind Test Your Limits. The program’s mantra is: “At any age, any stage – test your limits”, and this statement is proven by Dale Shippam, a heart transplant patient who is part of this winter’s expedition team.

The Test Your Limits expedition called for a garment that could not only handle ¬–60º Celsius temperatures, but also provide invaluable features for the difficult journey. In developing the ‘MISSION’ expedition coat, head designer Johnny Yiu drew from almost 25 years of fashion experience and invaluable input from lead expeditionist and cardiologist, Dr. Heather Ross, Medical Director of the Cardiac Transplant Program at Toronto General Hospital, and her associate, Dr. Diego Delgado, Transplant Cardiologist at University Health Network. The collaborative nature of this highly customized garment is possible as the coats are made locally in the company’s GTA headquarters.

“Based on my expedition experience in some of the most extreme conditions, this coat is created not only to withstand the intensity of the South Pole but it has all of the little details and features that make the biggest difference when you are exposed to the elements,” says Dr. Heather Ross. “The opportunity for Dr. Diego Delgado and me to be involved in the customization of this coat with Outdoor Survival Canada surpassed my expectations and I am grateful to have them as a part of our ‘Test Your Limits’ team.”

The limited edition coat appears in Outdoor Survival Canada’s Red Alert colour and includes all the standard features of the line’s other styles. New additions to ‘MISSION’ include 360º 3M reflection, D-rings for equipment, grab straps for easy lifting and rescue access, and satellite radio pockets. A signature feature of the coat is a specially-designed tunnel hood with a bracing wire for customized protection. With Outdoor Survival Canada’s ‘MISSION’ coat, the Test Your Limits team will be warm and protected as they complete their own mission in January.
